PCBA Bring-Up & Debugging: 3-Phase Inverter ESC

Hardware & Tools: SMT Soldering, multimeter, PSU

  • Executed SMT hand-soldering for a QFN MCU on a custom electronic speed controller, successfully resolving solder bridges across various pins under a microscope.

  • Debugged a grounded motor phase by tracing the error back to a GPIO of MCU and flashed blank code to the MCU to resolve the error and validate the hardware.

Mixed-Signal Debugging: ESP32 ADC Calibration

Hardware & Tools: ESP32, Precision DMM, Voltage Dividers

  • Diagnosed heavy non-linear drift on a custom ESP32-based battery voltage monitor for a drone motor thrust stand.

  • Scaled the cell voltages into the ESP32’s linear region by reworking voltage dividers and calibrated the voltages in firmware against precision multimeter measurements.

  • Implemented a GitHub-sourced software calibration lookup table by tying the internal DAC to the ADC to push the silicon to its maximum precision limits.

  • Working on a Arduino Nano-based analog signal processing perf board to measure the cell voltages and send the data the to ESP32 board via UART

Avionics Bay Integration & Harnessing

Hardware & Tools: Ultimaker & Bambu 3D Printers, Heat-Set Inserts, Wire Harnessing

  • Executed the electromechanical packaging and physical assembly for the UBC Rocket avionics bay, specifically optimizing the layout to fit within a strict 4-inch diameter rocket airframe.

  • Specified mounting hardware and integrated heat-set inserts to ensure secure PCB retention under high flight vibration.

  • Managed the wire harnessing layout within these tight volumetric constraints, running extensive rapid prototyping cycles on Ultimaker and Bambu printers to validate radial clearances and mechanical tolerances before final flight-ready assembly.
